how to control floods and managements

                            Flood

What is floods

Floods are natural disaster that occur when an areas that is usually  dry becomes  inundated  with water .this can result from various cause ,including  heavy rainfall ,rapid snowmelt ,storm surges from tropical storms or hurricanes ,and the  overflows of river , lakes or other water bodies , floods can cause significant  damage to property ,infrastructure  and the  environment  and can  lead  to loss  of life .

They can categories  into  different  type  such as -
1.  Flash floods
2.  river floods
3.  coastal floods
4.  urban floods

how to control floods

here  are some strategies  to control  floods

1.  Dams and reservoirs

constructing dam to store excess water during heavy rainfall, rapid glacier melt   and releasing it gradually .

2. channel  improvement

Depending or widening  river channel to increase  their  capacity  to carry  floods water.

3.   Levees and floodwalls

Building barrier  along river  to prevent  water  from  spilling  over into adjacent areas .

4.  River restoration

restoring river  to  their  natural  meandering  path to slow  down water  flow  and reduce  floods peaks .

5. Reforestation and Afforestation

planting  trees to  enhance  soil absorption  of  water  and reduce  surface  runoff.

6.Early  warning  system

Developing and  maintaining  system  to  provide  timely  warning  to  communities  about  impending  floods .

7. Interlinking  of river

Interlinking of river to  another river  for distributed excess water in river into  another river  to control  floods

8. gutter

Gutter are provided  to flow of  heavy rainwater  in city . gutter are always clean , repair and maintenance  regularly  to control floods

9. cannal

cannal are  excavated or constructed to connect river  for  distributed  excess  water  of river  to control the risk of  overflows of water , and reduces the loads on dam .

10. ponds excavated

various ponds are excavated to store rainwater . the main function of ponds to storing water , and  due to ponds ,water  cannot flows long time  in city or village  because by the gutter  all excess water   are goes to ponds .

11. Excavation of river beds

excavation of river beds  to be done  because  due to soil erosion  the layer of soil or river  beds   is rises up ,so excavation is very necessary  to setting down the river beds  to  control large volume of water .

12. public awareness and education .

educating communities  about floods  risks and preparedness  measure to reduce  vulnerability  and enhance  resilience.
