Revolt of 1857

 The Revolt of 1857, also known as the First War of Indian Independence, was a significant uprising against British rule in India. It began as a mutiny by Indian soldiers, or sepoys, in the British East India Company's army, particularly in Meerut on May 10, 1857. The rebellion soon spread to several parts of northern and central India, including Delhi, Kanpur, Lucknow, and Jhansi. The causes of the revolt were multifaceted, including resentment over British policies, cultural insensitivity, and the use of cartridge greased with animal fat, which offended Hindu and Muslim soldiers.
